something different. From Saturday, 1 August, the school is launching cycling and
mountain biking as an organised after-school sport — making it one of the first schools in the
greater Eden district to put cycling on the timetable, with world-class routes right on its doorstep

A new kind of school sport in Mossel Bay

King’s College is introducing a full cycling development programme as an organised sport and
extracurricular activity. It’s open to any learner brave enough to try something new, as well as
those who already ride — all you need is a bicycle, a helmet and a bit of courage. The aim is simple:
give every child the chance to fall in love with cycling in a safe, supportive environment.

Expert coaching from Day’s Cycling Company

Weekly coaching is led by Day’s Cycling Company, a respected Mossel Bay cycling
business, and its owner Dusty Day — an accomplished road and gravel cyclist. As Dusty
puts it, cycling is about far more than riding a bike: “It’s about having fun, making new friends,
staying healthy, learning new skills and building confidence.”
Coaches will work closely with the
young riders to build their skills and confidence, week after week.

What learners will gain

Beyond a fun new activity, cycling teaches lessons that last a lifetime — perseverance when things
get tough, respect for others, teamwork and self-belief. “Sometimes we fall off our bikes,” Dusty
told the learners, “but what matters most is that we get back up, learn from it and keep moving
forward.” It’s a perfect complement to the well-rounded education happening inside the King’s College
classrooms.

New cycling routes at Outeniquasbosch

There are already over 35km of cycling and mountain-biking trails inside the Outeniquasbosch
Wildlife Village
— right next to the school — with more being added all the time. Each route is
crafted with safety and fun in mind, ideal for families and friends to explore nature together, create
lasting memories and build a lifelong love of the sport.
